Recreation

The mission of Cambridge Recreation is to encourage Cambridge residents of all ages, identities and abilities to invest in their health, wellbeing and personal growth - and make meaningful connections along the way. From youth basketball leagues to a junior golf league; outdoor family movie nights and summer concert series; swimming lessons and the Cambridge Summer Food Program, and much more, Recreation provides access to a wide range of high-quality and affordable recreational opportunities.

In addition to offering a variety of programming, Recreation also manages the War Memorial Recreation Center (1640 Cambridge St.) and Gold Star Pool (123 Berkshire St.). The division oversees Danehy Park (99 Sherman St.), the main site of athletic leagues and citywide cultural events, and Fresh Pond Golf Course (691 Huron Ave.), one of the busiest municipal golf courses in the state. Recreation staff also oversee the permitting of Cambridge athletic fields and coordinate with other City departments to support special events and improvements to our City’s open spaces.
