Upland Road Roadway Reconstruction
The project consists of a 'chicane,' created by curb extensions and alternating the existing on-street parking from the south side of the street to the north side of the two-block stretch of Upland Road between Buena Vista Park and Vincent Street. Additional curb extensions are proposed at Richdale Avenue, Walnut Avenue, Washington Avenue, Avon Hill Street and Newell Street. The plans are based on input received from residents who participated in a community process completed in December 2005.
The City has expanded the scope of the Upland Road project to include replacing all sidewalks in the project area, rather than just repairing selected locations. As such, the project will be divided into two phases. The first phase will be from Massachusetts Avenue to Raymond Street (including the intersection). Construction is scheduled to start summer 2007. The second phase will include Upland road west of the intersection with Raymond Street to Huron Avenue. It is anticipated that the second phase will be bid by the end of 2007.
