Clement Morgan Park and Pine Street Park Renovations
Future renovations will include all new playground equipment, safety surfacing, fence improvements, park signage, and upgrades to the water play equipment at Pine Street Park.
What’s Happening Now
We have revised the park renovation design based on feedback we received from community members in October. You can view the final design plan along with example images of park equipment and features through the links below. These files are in PDF format and require use of the free Adobe Acrobat viewer.

Some of the features of the design include:
- New play equipment for school-age children (5-12 years old) at a new location in the park along Pine Street. Community members felt that on the whole, it would be preferable to have the playground separated from basketball court activity and closer to the tot lot, Margaret Fuller House and Boys & Girls Club.
- New play equipment for toddlers (under 5 years old) and upgraded water play equipment at Anthony Paolillo Tot Lot on Pine Street.
- Additional lighting and a reconfiguration of pathways to improve visibility.
- Reduction of pavement, addition of green space and plantings.
- New benches and picnic tables throughout the park.
- A new accessible drinking fountain, emergency phone, and community posting board.
- New signage and decorative features at the park entrances.
- A sitting area for basketball court players and spectators.
- Crosswalks and signage installed at the intersection of Pine and Eaton Streets.
Community members also raised the possibility of installing lighting over the existing basketball court. Such new lighting would allow for evening basketball use until 9:30pm daily, from April through October. The lighting would be designed to minimize “spillover” effects onto adjacent properties, and would be timed to turn off after hours. Please contact Paul Ryder (617-349-6229 or pryder@cambridgema.gov) in the Recreation Division of the Department of Human Service Programs with questions.
The project is being prepared to release for public bid in January 2009. Construction is expected to begin in early spring 2009.
