EV Charging Station

By summer 2012, the City of Cambridge will be on the leading edge of public infrastructure availability for electric vehicle charging.  With state and federal funding to seed the initiative, Cambridge has joined a nationwide electric vehicle charging station program to add 10 new stations (EVSEs) throughout the city, collectively accommodating up to 18 electric vehicles (EVs) at any time.  The City worked with community partners to install the stations in places that are accessible to the public and near frequently visited locations as well as residential areas.  Stations will be located at the:

  • Department of Public Works parking lot (147 Hampshire Street);
  • Central Square municipal parking lot (84 Bishop Allen Drive);
  • Porter Square Shopping Center;
  • MIT campus at 43 Vassar Street and 34 Brookline Street;
  • Cambridge Center West Garage in Kendall Square;
  • First Street Garage; and
  • CambridgeSide Galleria Mall.

Charging station locations can also be viewed online by visiting the Coulomb Technologies ChargePoint America map.

The availability of public charging infrastructure for EVs will play an important role in promoting electric vehicle use in Cambridge, and will enable City departments and the broader community to take advantage of the cost and environmental benefits they provide.
