NEW HUBWAY STATIONS OPENING IN CAMBRIDGE!

Hubway, metro-Boston’s public bike share system, reopened system-wide operations last week and this week will see the installation of two new Cambridge Hubway stations, at Danehy Park and Dana Park.

Two New Stations Open for Use

The Dana Park Station is located on Lawrence Street, and fills in a large gap in the system and will particularly valuable for Cambridgeport residents and visitors; the Danehy Park Station will be the first step in expanding the station network further west, and will provide access to the most significant recreational open space in Cambridge.

The new stations connect seamlessly with Cambridge’s year-round operations pilot that saw an average of approximately 2,000 Hubway trips per week during the winter season with no incidents or injuries reported. “Cambridge is very excited for the expansion of Hubway to other points in the network,” says Cambridge Mayor David Maher. “Our pilot program kept Hubway available throughout the winter and has shown the incredible strength of this program. I know that both residents and visitors benefit a great deal from this car-free solution, and our city is committed to continue encouraging this type of mode-shift for commuters.”

Four More Stations Coming

In addition to the two stations this week, four more stations will be installed this spring, including one on Kendall Street donated by BioMed Realty. “We congratulate the City of Cambridge on the opening of new Hubway stations across the city, including the Kendall Street station,” said Bill Kane, Vice President, Leasing and Development at BioMed Realty. “We are excited to be a part of the Hubway program and the bike share initiative which is consistent with our sustainability efforts throughout Cambridge.”

Residents of the Cambridgeport neighborhood are excited to finally have a Hubway station. Lawrence Street resident Andrew Farrar wrote today. "Margaret and I are thrilled that a new Hubway Station is being installed alongside Dana Park in the heart of Cambridgeport.  It will definitely hasten our movement to one car, and who knows, perhaps no cars at all.  Thank you."

The Stats So Far

Since opening in 2011, the Hubway system has logged over 1.7 million bicycle miles, and Hubway riders have burned 67 million calories and offset 500 tons of CO2 emissions. Hubway has nearly 10,000 annual subscribers and last year sold more than 79,000 24-Hour subscriptions, 9,000 72-Hour subscriptions, and 2,000 monthly subscriptions.
