Our community is deeply saddened by the death of Brian Murphy, Assistant City Manager for Community Development. Brian was a dedicated husband and father, and a close personal friend to so many of us in this City.

We mourn the sudden loss of our colleague. Our community will in time come together to celebrate his life and the incredible contributions he made to our City and the Commonwealth. 

Our focus at this moment is to support his loved ones and to respect his family as they grieve.

Visiting hours will be held in the Sullivan Chamber of Cambridge City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Avenue on Wednesday, February 11 from 3 to 7 p.m. (City Hall is handicapped accessible at the rear entrance).

Brian Patrick Murphy, Esq., 50, suddenly of Cambridge, February 5, 2015. Beloved husband of Katherine (Champion). Devoted father of Molly K. and Joseph C. Murphy. Son of the late Joseph G., Esq. & Mary T. (Keaney) Murphy. Cherished brother of Mark F., Esq. and his wife Patricia (Jones) of Wellesley, Marybeth Pepin and her husband Stephen of Milton and the late Jerry Murphy. Devoted brother-in-law of Mary (Walsh) Murphy of Milton, and Thomas and Robyn Champion of Somerville. Nephew of Patricia A. Keaney of Milton, Francis M. Keaney of FL and Alice Thavis of MN. Also survived by his loving nephew, nieces, and cousins. Visiting hours will be held in the Sullivan Chamber of Cambridge City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Avenue, CAMBRIDGE, on Wednesday, February 11 from 3 to 7 p.m. (City Hall is handicapped accessible at the rear entrance). Funeral mass in St. Paul's Church Bow & Arrow Sts. ( Harvard Square) Cambridge Thursday, February 12 at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment Cambridge Cemetery. Graduate of the Roxbury Latin School, Harvard College, and the University of Chicago Law School. Late Cambridge City Councillor. Former Deputy Secretary of MA Department of Transportation. Late Assistant City Manager-Cambridge Community Development. Please omit flowers.
