HRI has created and preserved affordable homes and housing opportunities since 1972. Our mission is to develop safe, sustainable housing for all people, regardless of age, race, income or identity.
Our Partners
Over the years, our organization has created partnerships which help strengthen our work and further our mission. We believe these partnerships are crucial for highlighting issues surrounding affordable housing, sustainability and community development efforts.
Resident Services
HRI’s Resident Services Program offers a wide range of programming and assistance to residents living in our housing portfolio. We focus on identifying and addressing residents’ diverse needs and providing effective support and information. Resident input plays a large role in determining the scope of our programs.
Program Spotlight
Market in the Park
Each summer and fall. HRI partners with Boston Area Gleaners and Food for Free to offer a series of no-cost farmers markets at locations across our housing portfolio. Markets consist of fresh produce, gleaned and donated by volunteers, and other goods delivered directly from local farms to HRI properties. All items are available to residents free of charge. Several markets also include cooking demonstrations, free books, and tabling by representatives from area social service agencies.

Our Properties
HRI’s development staff work to acquire existing housing and vacant land, preserving and creating new affordable housing using a range of strategies and policy tools.
HRI has successfully developed 1,500 apartments throughout Cambridge, with an additional property in Worcester, and is actively looking for properties to develop as affordable housing.
