Project Background

The renovations to Alden Park on Sacramento Street, near the Baldwin School in Agassiz, include a full replacement of the play equipment along with some overall upgrades to the playground area. As we worked on designing these improvements, we held a series of public meetings to hear the comments, concerns, and ideas of park users. Since this park plays an important role both as a neighborhood play area and a school recess playground, we invited the neighborhood community as well as the Baldwin School students, parents and staff to participate in these discussions.

At our first public meeting in June, 2005, in order to help inform the preliminary design, community members offered their thoughts on how the park is currently used, what does or doesn't work well, and how people might like to see the park improved. We also received many written comments by letter, e-mail, and phone. A second meeting was held in October 2005 where residents reviewed and commented on a preliminary park design. A slide presentation from that meeting is available for download below.
