Massachusetts Department of Revenue's Small Business Tax Workshop

  • Date: Tuesday, October 21, 2014
  • Time: 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.
  • Location: Cambridge City Hall Annex, 344 Broadway, 2nd floor Community Room
  • Description: This workshop is designed for the tax novice. Topics include registering your business with the DOR, meeting employer responsibilities, reporting business income, filing sales and use tax returns, sales tax responsibilities and more. Presented by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.

Restaurant Start Up Assistance

QuickBooks Boot Camp

  • Date: Tuesday, October 28, 2014
  • Time: 9:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.
  • Location: Cambridge City Hall Annex, 344 Broadway, 2nd floor Community Room
  • Description: This intensive, one day course will cover how to set up and maintain a financial bookkeeping system using QuickBooks. This workshops will also cover how to enter data from non-QuickBooks point of sales systems, enter and pay bills, run and understand basic financial statements and run reporting features that are needed to make day-to-day financial decisions. Computers will be provided to the first ten eligible participants, but others are encouraged to bring their own, with QuickBooks software. Presented by the Center for Women and Enterprise.

Choosing Your Legal Entity

  • Description: Did you know that spending with Minority and Women-Owned businesses has nearly doubled since 2007? To learn how your business can become a certified Minority and/or Women-Owned business, attend this workshop. Please note that this workshop is required as a part of the state's certification program. Presented by the Massachusetts Supplier and Diversity Office.

Purchasing with the City of Cambridge Workshop

  • Description: Are you a local Cambridge business interested in doing business with the City of Cambridge? Come to this workshop to learn what the city's purchasing policies are, what the city most frequently buys and how to get on the city's Vendor Registry. The purchasing department will be on hand to answer questions and learn about what your business can offer to the city. Presented by the City of Cambridge. This is a Local Economy Week event.

Harnessing the Power of LinkedIn - Beginners Workshop

SDO Pre-Certification Workshop

  • Date: Thursday, November 13, 2014

  • Description: 71% of Internet users are on Facebook. Social Media is a key piece of business owners’ marketing arsenal. This hands-on workshop will give participants a solid understanding of Facebook and how to position themselves and their business. Participants will learn FB applications that every business should be using, how to effectively use and understand your profile, home page, groups, fan pages, business pages, and events; and more! Marketing Boot Camp

  • Description: As an entrepreneur, everything you do is a marketing opportunity. As more challenging competition and technical tools become the norm, it is essential to reach potential customers and develop loyalty in ways that are practical, convincing, clean, and urgent. In this half-day workshop, you will understand market research and how to identify and quantify your target audience, how data mining can work for you, and develop a tailored marketing plan that you can start immediately. Attendees are encouraged to bring marketing materials to share for feedback (e.g., brochures, business cards, etc.) Presented by the Center for Women and Enterprise.
