GoGreen in Central Square / GoGreen Month Kickoff
What: To kick off GoGreen Month, the City will host an information and outreach event at City Hall (sidewalk in front), with representatives from the City of Cambridge, and transportation organizations such as the MBTA, Zipcar and MassRIDES.

First Mondays @ Cambridge Arts Council
What: In conjunction with the CAC Gallery exhibitions, the Cambridge Arts Council presents this free monthly, multisensory event series, First Mondays @ CAC Gallery, on the first Monday of each month in the intimate CAC Gallery.

Hunt for the Golden Shoes
What: Look for a golden shoe while you are out walking in Cambridge. Shoes may be hidden in parks, near walking paths, in retail districts, along school routes, and anywhere that people walk. If you find a Golden Shoe, follow the directions on the attached card, to claim a prize!
Sponsored by Cambridge Pedestrian Committee, Cambridge Health Alliance, and the Community Development Department.

Water Department "Water Week"
What: Plans are in development. Past years' events included information displays as well as a day when school children can visit interactive displays about the water cycle, water pollution, and water processing.

Fresh Pond Day
What: A celebration of the City's largest open space. There will be activities for all ages, including musical performances, tours, demonstrations and displays. For more information, visit the Fresh Pond web page.

Cambridge Open Studios
What: walk, bike or take the T to explore art in Cambridge! Meet hundreds of artists and discover unique paintings, jewelry, fiber arts, ceramics, film,

GoGreen at the Library
What: New event in 2010! The Main Library will host an information and outreach event in front of the main library entrance (indoors, in the event of rain), with representatives from the City of Cambridge, and transportation organizations such as the MBTA, Zipcar and MassRIDES.

GoGreen Business Award Presentation
What: Award presentation to recognize Cambridge businesses that make outstanding environmental efforts in the areas of transportation, recycling and energy.

Bicycle Commuter Appreciation
What: As part of National Bike to Work Day, the Cambridge Bicycle Committee and the City of Cambridge will be thanking commuters who bike to work by presenting them with a small giveaway. Members of the Bicycle Committee will be stationed at locations throughout the city to catch cyclists on their way to work and give them their gift.

Cambridge Spring Bicycle Tour
What: Join the Cambridge Bicycle Committee for a leisurely ride through the streets of Cambridge as part of the city's annual GoGreen Month activities. This year's ride theme and route is currently in development.

What: See Public Works fleet vehicles, learn about their jobs, and hear how several have "green" features.

What: Sponsored by Boston Properties and the Charles River TMA, this information fair will include displays by many transportation options organizations.

Financing Your Solar Project workshop
What: This is an excellent opportunity for Cambridge citizens to learn about renewable energy programs and resources available to develop local projects. Larry Chretien, Executive Director of the Mass Energy Consumers Alliance will provide an update on net metering and investment opportunities in Massachusetts. In addition, a panel of local contractors and program providers will share their expertise to help residents and businesses take advantage of robust incentives and resources to develop renewable energy projects.

Commute A Better Way Day
What: Cambridge's voluntary car-free day to encourage single occupant vehicle commuters to try a different mode of transportation. Participants will take the "Commute A Better Way pledge", stating that they will try walking, cycling, taking the T, carpooling, or another option, instead of driving to work. They will also be entered into a drawing to win a FREE copy of "Car-Free in Boston". To take the pledge, send an email, including your name, commute mode choice for May 28, usual commute mode, round trip commute mileage, and mailing address (in case you win the prize).

Kids on Wheels
What: In conjunction with the Cambridge Science Festival, swissnex Boston, Swiss Consulate is sponsoring Kids on Wheels!
Zoom into everything that has to do with biking for kids ages 3 to 10. This will be a fun and educational event for Cambridge families that want to explore both the science and the excitement of getting around on wheels. Bring your own bike, or try one on site. Statewide Bicycle Counts
What: Every year, the state organizes volunteers to count trail users at locations throughout the state. This is a very helpful way of helping us track trail usage over time and advocate for more funding for trails.
Where: On the Minuteman, near Alewife, and along the Charles near MIT
When: May 1 and May 4, varying hours, typically 2 hour volunteer shifts

Cambridge Green Streets Initiative's Walk/Ride Day
What: As part of Cambridge Green Streets Initiative's Last-Friday-of-the-Month Walk/Ride Day, we encourage people who live, work or send children to school in Cambridge to walk, bike, take the bus or train, pogo-stick, stilt, scooter, etc. to work, errands, or school on that day each month. Check with your school's or businesses's coordinator, or become one yourself!
