Lead-Safe Cambridge Lead Paint Removal Program
What Does the Program Include?
LSC offers funding to assist private property owners in deleading their units. The program provides:
- Deferred forgivable loans to property owners for lead paint removal.
- Assistance with arranging lead inspections and abatement.
- Temporary relocation services to families while their apartments are being deleaded.
- Referrals for blood testing and medical follow-up for children under 6 years old.
- Educational materials and training sessions for families and service organizations in the community to help them learn more about the dangers of lead and the steps they can take to ensure safety.
Who is Eligible?
Owners of residential property in Cambridge, Massachusetts may apply to have their property deleaded. These houses or apartments must be occupied by low or moderate income families as defined by the federal Section 8 guidelines.
Vacant homes or apartments may also be deleaded if the property owner agrees to rent to low or moderate income families throughout the duration of the loan period.
For
more information see the Income Guidelines. Please call for more specific requirements.
What Costs are Covered by Lead-Safe Cambridge?
- 100% of lead inspection costs.
- Full cost of abatement, up to $10,000 per unit, including exterior and common areas.
- Temporary relocation costs for families in units which are deleaded.
- Referrals for blood lead testing of children under 6 years old.
What are My Obligations as a Property Owner?
In order to participate in our program, you must enter into an agreement ensuring that deleaded units will continue to be available to low and moderate income families, preferably with children, for a period of five years. You must also agree not to pass-on the cost of work performed after your application has been approved. LSC will only cover the cost of work performed after the approval of your application.
What if My Property is not Eligible?
If you live outside of Cambridge, or your property is otherwise ineligible, we have resource materials available. Contact us for a list of lead inspectors and contractors. We also have information about lead poisoning prevention, the Massachusetts Lead Law, and other funding sources that might be available to you.
