The Economic Development Division works with the Center for Women & Enterprise, Cambridge Community Television (CCTV), Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and local organizations to provide business development programs and services to Cambridge residents, entrepreneurs, and businesses.

Building Business Websites with WIX

  • Date: Wednesday, August 31, 2016

  • Description: Can't code HTML? Don't have thousands to shell out for a beautiful web design? Not to worry, you can build your own interactive website using WIX. This three hour, hands-on workshop will walk you through the web-building program including how to find, purchase, and connect a domain name, how to pick a template, how to create web pages, pricing structures, and how to enable e-commerce and blogs. Class requirements: computer and internet literacy.

Shopify Workshop

  • Description: Described as "clean, simple, and easy to use", Shopify is a complete e-commerce platform that allows you to set up a professional online store to sell your goods. It lets you organize your products, customize your storefront, accept credit card payments, and track as well as respond to orders on your computer or mobile device. This workshop will break down the basics of Shopify -- including why you'd want to use it as well as hot to get started. Class requirements: computer and internet literacy.

Using Instagram to Promote Your Business

Search Engine Optimization

  • Description: This class is about how to get your website to the top of Google Search. Instructors will focus on ON-Page and Off-Page SEO. Have you ever wondered why you are not #1 on Google? Attend this class and not only find out why your website isn't #1, but what steps you can take to earn the #1 position. Class requirements: you must wither work on your own website, or actively serve as an administrator for an existing business or organization website.

DIY Video for Small Businesses

  • Description: 93% of marketers are using video. Video is having a huge impact on how a company shares their messaging and how to share proper Call-to-Actions. In this class, you will learn the basics of what goes into a video production, how to create a beneficial videos on a shoe-string budget, and techniques for capturing professional-looking video with a mobile device. Class requirements: computer and internet literacy.

  • Description: A blog is a great communication and marketing tool for any business. Participants in this session will learn the basics of creating a blog - from customizing its look and feel to adding multimedia to it. We will also look at how to find interesting content to blog about, blogging etiquette, ways to use content to address the needs of your audience, how to optimize your posts for search engines, how to promote your posts on social media, and measure the results. Class requirements: computer and internet literacy.
