Installation of Underground Storage Tanks
Installation of underground storage tanks is regulated by the Board of Fire Prevention Regulations (527CMR) Section 9.05.

No new or replacement tank or piping shall be installed without a permit first being issued by the Fire Department.

No new or replacement tank shall be installed except by a contractor who has been certified in writing by the manufacturer or a petroleum equipment association as qualified for the purpose.

Underground tanks being installed must use a full concrete pad (not deadmen).

A plot plan and tank manufacturer specifications must be submitted with each installation or replacement.

Tanks must be installed in accordance with the Board of Fire Prevention Regulations 527CMR 9.05 (C) 1-7

Application for Permit
Application to install an underground storage tank must be made in person at the Fire Prevention Office.
