Aboveground Tanks

The removal of any fuel storage tank requires a permit by the Fire Department (527CMR 4.03 (I) (f).  If the owner of the property would like to document the removal, then the Tank Removal Permit (SFMO Form FP292) must be filled out in addition to the permit and submitted to the Fire Department.

Tank Removal Permit Fee - $100 per tank

Underground Tanks

A Fire Department permit is required to remove any fuel storage tank located underground. The Tank Removal Permit (SFMO Form FP292) and Tank Removal Notification Form (SFMO Form FP290R) must be submitted with payment to the Fire Department prior to tank removal. Underground tank removals must be witnessed by the Fire Department. Tank removal inspections are generally done M-F between 11-12 but are subject to change due to inspector availability. To arrange for a tank removal inspection, please call (617) 349-4918.
