Unarmed Burglary

On 9/29/08 at 12:59 AM, a Cambridge resident reported discovering an unknown white male in his apartment. Upon being sighted, the male climbed over his couch and back outside his side window and fled on foot. The resident exited the building and discovered the male in an alley abutting the building. Upon being sighted, the suspect climbed a fence and ran toward Centre Street. A suspect was pursued by police, detained and positively identified by the victim as the suspect, Anthony Matanza, 39, of 30 Riverdale Ave., Newton MA. He was the subsequently placed under arrest.

On 9/29/08 at 1:19 AM, police were dispatched to the vicinity of Lexington Ave. for a reported disturbance. After a brief investigation, a domestic dispute report was taken regarding a minor verbal dispute.

Armed Robbery

On 9/29/08 at 7:13 AM, Rosie's Bakery of 1796 Mass. Ave. reported an armed burglary that occurred as an employee entered the store to open. The suspect was described as a male of unknown race, 5'8", dressed in a light blue sweat suit with hooded sweatshirt, wearing a mask and gloves.

On 9/29/08 at 8:12 AM, a reporting party indicated that she parked her vehicle on Williams St. on 9/28/08. Upon returning on 9/29/08, she discovered the vehicle missing.

On 9/29/08 at 10:14 AM, a reporting party stated that while doing inventory of her cart, she noticed three modules missing. Modules are from the Rosetta Stone cart at the Galleria Mall. These contained foreign language aids. It is unknown when these were taken.

On 9/29/08 at 10:53 AM, Cambridge Police Detectives responded to Whole Foods located on River St. and arrested Lamar Baker, 24, of 18 Greenwood St., Dorchester MA, for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender based upon information provided by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry.

On 9/29/08 at 11:29 AM, a Chicago, IL resident reported that on 9/28/08 between the hours of 2:00 AM and 4:00 PM, an unknown individual(s) stole a brown bag containing a musical instrument while she was standing in front of the Charles Square Hotel.

On 9/29/08 at 12:37 PM, victim reported that her car's window was smashed while it was parked on Pleasant St. sometime on 9/28/08. There are no suspects or witnesses.

Assault

On 9/29/08 at 12:40 PM, officers responded to the ATT store located inside of the CambridgeSide galleria, for a report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, units spoke with both the reporting party and the suspect and were able to restore order.  The suspect was checked for warrants and was trespassed from the store.

On 9/29/08 at 1:32 PM, an officer on routine patrol observed a white Hyundai take an illegal left hand turn from Prospect St. onto Mass. Ave. The vehicle was pulled over at Mass. Ave and Essex St. A check of the operator Jeffrey Beale's license status through ECC revealed that Mr. Beale had an outstanding warrant out of East Boston District Court. Jeffery Beale, 41, of 63 Beaver St., Framingham MA, was placed under arrest for his warrant and issued a citation for the illegal left turn.

Identity Fraud

On 9/29/08 at 2:48 PM, a Churchill Avenue resident reported that she was a victim of identity fraud. Someone had opened a student loan in her name.

Shoplifting

On 9/29/08 at 4:32 PM, an officer was dispatched by CambridgeSide Galleria security to the H&M store for a shoplifter in custody. An H&M loss prevention officer observed Archana Basnet, 21, of 33 Temple St., Somerville MA, select multiple clothing items from the sales floor and place them into a bag she was carrying. She subsequently exited the store without paying for the items. The items were recovered from Basnet's bag, inventoried, and then returned to H&M.  Basnet was placed under arrest and transported to CPD for booking.

Drinking In Public

On 9/29/08 at 4:44 PM, Paul King, 46, of 240 Albany St. was arrested for Drinking in Public after he was observed sitting on a bench in front of 526 Mass. Ave. emptying a bottle of Ruble Vodka into a half empty bottle of Nantucket Nectars Orange Juice and drinking from the bottle.

On 9/29/08 at 5:04 PM, a resident of South Carolina reported that she signed up for a childbirth education class with a company based out of Cambridge, MA. The victim paid for the class, which was never held. She never received her money back and has not been able to contact the company again.

On 9/29/08 at 5:43 PM, a resident of Lambert ST. stated that he has a 209A restraining order against him from his ex-wife that also lives in the same building. His complaint was that she has been calling him by phone and knocking on his door. He doesn’t answer the phone and she doesn’t leave any message but he sees her phone number on caller ID.

On 9/29/08 at 6:05 PM, a Brookline St. resident reported that some unknown person stole his 1997 Honda Civic while it was parked on Lopez St.  The reporting person last saw his Honda on 9/27/08 at 3:00 PM.

On 9/29/08 at 7:09 PM, an officer spoke to a victim’s mother who stated that her son left his bicycle at the Fletcher Maynard Academy playground for five minutes as he went inside the school to get a drink of water. When he came out, the bicycle was gone.

On 9/29/08 at 6:48 PM, an officer performing selective enforcement at Main St. and Broadway conducted a motor vehicle stop. The operator was issued a citation for Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

On 9/29/08 at 8:40 PM, Felton Dyous, 66, homeless, and Norris Waldron, 28, of 621A Cummins Highway, Mattapan MA, were placed under arrest for Possession With Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug and Conspiracy to Violate A Drug Law.

On 9/29/08 at 8:40 PM, a Pearl St. resident reported that some unknown person(s) broke into her motor vehicle while it was parked on Pearl St. They took her two front seats and rear seat. There were no other items taken and no apparent damage to her motor vehicle.
