Sidney St.

Victim reported that she was asleep in her apartment when she heard the suspect enter the apartment. The victim screamed, then heard the suspect exit the apartment.

Brookline St.

Reporting party stated that an unknown suspect entered her apartment by forcing open a bedroom window screen. The cabinets and drawers had been gone through, and there were Playstation games and bottles of cologne missing.

Two women stated that while walking down Mass Ave. they bumped into the suspect and he then assaulted them.

The victim stated that he was walking with his bicycle behind Maurice Hall when the he turned around, kicked the victim's front tire, and began attacking him. Officers responded and observed Hall repeatedly striking the victim in the head with a closed fist and kicking him in his leg twice.

Central Square

Wilton Daley was arrested after he threatened a police officer while making a hand movement across his throat. He then fled against officers' demands for him to stop and hit a police officer while he was being handcuffed.

Pearl St. (Pearl St. Market)

The victim stated that two young black male suspects entered the store, placed several items into a backpack, and then left. When the victim attempted to stop them, one suspect pushed the victim to the ground causing minor injuries.
Suspect 1: Black male, 20-25 years old, 5'10", medium build, shaved head, wearing a black shirt and black shoes, and carrying a backpack
Suspect 2: Black male, 20-25 years old, 5'8", wearing a white tank top and black shorts

Armed Assault to Murder

Lopez St.

38-year-old Tommy Bradford of 35 Lopez St. Cambridge, MA was arrested at his residence for Armed Assault to Murder and Assault and Battery with a Deadly Weapon after he was identified by the victim and witness as the man who stabbed the victim in the neck. The victim and suspect were known to each other prior to this incident.

The victim stated that he was riding his bike when two black male teens approached him and grabbed his handlebars, causing him to stop. One of the suspects demanded the victim’s bike. When the victim refused, the suspect knocked him to the ground, got onto the bike, and sped off. The other suspect fled on foot.

The victim stated that three female juvenile suspects known to her from school assaulted her and stole her iPod and cell phone.

The victim stated that he was standing outside the club when twenty white male suspects starting punching him in the head.

The victim stated that Jay Doyle asked to pet and feed the dog that she was walking. She refused to let him pet the dog due to his high level of intoxication. He then became angry and continued to follow and harass the victim. She attempted to flee, but he caught up with her and punched her in the face. The suspect grabbed the victim by the throat and kneed her in the stomach several times before throwing her to the ground. Witnesses were able to stop the assault.

Mass Ave.

A CVS Loss Prevention Officer stated that he observed Paul Lawerence place 8 bottles of lotion into his backpack and then exit the store. The officer stopped Lawerence upon exiting and asked him to come back into the store. He refused, pulled out a knife, and threatened the victim before fleeing. He was then stopped by Cambridge Police and positively identified by the Loss Prevention Officer. Lawerence also had 2 outstanding warrants.

Memorial Dr.

The victim stated that he withdrew cash from an ATM and then went to his friend's residence. Minutes later an unknown suspect forced his way into the unlocked apartment and pulled out a firearm with a potato on the barrel of the gun. The suspect demanded money and attempted to steal the victim's money and a struggle ensued. The victim was able to knock the gun from the suspect's hands and the suspect fled the apartment.
Suspect Description: Black male, 5'9 - 5'10, 28-32 years old, muscular stocky build, with approximately 1 inch of hair all around his head, wearing dark blue jeans and a black jacket with a diamond quilt style pattern

Magazine St.

The victim stated that an unknown suspect broke into his residence by prying a first floor window leading to the bathroom. The suspect ransacked the apartment and stole cash, credit cards, a laptop, and an iPod. The victim’s credit cards were used at a Wendy’s in Dorchester.

The victim stated that an unknown suspect approached her while she was sitting on a park bench and attempted to steal her laptop. The victim was able to hold onto the laptop, but the suspect stole her briefcase.
Suspect Description: White male in his 30's, very thin and disheveled looking, possibly homeless, wearing a dark coat.

The victim reported that while in Wendy’s a Hispanic male suspect punched her in the face for unknown reasons.

Erie St. and Pearl St.

The victim stated that while walking toward Central Square,  two black male youths pushed him to the ground and began punching and kicking him in the head. The suspects demanded the victim's wallet. Once in possession of the wallet, the suspects fled down Erie St. toward Magazine St.
Suspect Description: Suspect 1 wearing a brown puffy winter coat, Suspect 2 wearing a black or dark grey puffy winter coat. Both syspects had hoods over their heads and were wearing work boots

The reporting party stated that an unknown suspect(s) gained entry to the establishment by unknown means and pried open the office door and cash register. The suspect stole cash.

The VP of Aware Technology stated that an unknown person pried open the front door of the establishment and stole 3 laptops and 20 "Action Trappers" between 1/4/09 and 1/5/09.

Sidney St (Agios Pharmaceutical)

 A Dell laptop was stolen from the office. The office is secure and requires card access to gain entry.

Mass. Ave.

A witness stated that she observed a street level drug transaction take place inside the Good Will Store. Officers stopped the suspect who matched the witness's description. He was found to be in possession of sealed bags containing a substance believed to marijuana. The suspect was placed under arrest for Possession of a Class D with Intent to Distribute and a Drug Violation near School/Park.

Pearl Street

A victim stated that an unknown person(s) gained entry into the vacant building he owns. Nothing appeared missing at the time. The building has been vacant since June and has no utility service, and the doors and windows are boarded up. He observed the padlock forced of the rear basement door and two other doors open. Extra attention has been requested at this location.

Pearl St.

A victim reported that while walking, she was approached by an unknown male who attempted to rob her at knifepoint. The victim stated that the suspect grabbed her and demanded that she give him the cell phone as he was brandishing a knife. The victim struggled with the suspect for a moment and when he was unable to get control of the phone he fled. The suspect was described as a black male, 16-17 years old, wearing jeans and a dark blue jacket with orange lining.

Brookline Street

A victim reported that she took her trash out that night and then locked her apartment door. The victim stated that she was positive she locked the door prior to going to bed. The victim was awoken by her son crying at 4:30 AM and felt a cold draft in the apartment. Upon further investigation, the victim discovered that her apartment door was ajar. She looked outside the door into the alley and noticed the gate to the property was also open. Nothing appeared to be missing. The victim believes that her son's crying may have scared the suspect away. There was no evidence of forced entry.

A victim reported that an unknown person attempted to gain entry into his home. The victim noticed that the screen to his first floor window had been cut when he opened the window that afternoon for some fresh air. He also noticed two rear windows that had the screens taken off and finger prints consistent with someone trying to push the window up.

Brookline St.

A victim stated that he heard someone knocking on his door and saw that it was his roommate's friend. He opened the door for the friend and two other guys came in behind him. One of the suspects pushed him out of the way and punched him in the face while the other opened his coat and showed a black 9mm firearm inside the pocket of his coat. They went into the other room looking for the victim's roommate and when they found him started beating him up as well. The victim was able to flee and call police. The two suspects then stole a motor vehicle and fled the scene. One of the suspects has since been arrested.

A victim stated that while walking in the area he was approached by three black males about 18-20 years old. The victim reported that the suspects started punching him in the head as he tried to maintain possession of his wallet. The victim fell to the ground and the suspects started kicking him in the head and took his wallet. The victim was transferred to CCH due to a deep laceration to his head.

A victim reported that while walking down the street a group of about fifteen teenage females jumped her and took her sidekick cell phone. The victim stated that she did not know any of the females and could not identify any of them or provide any descriptions.

Brookline Pl.

Officers observed a grey Honda Accord with its headlights off traveling the wrong way on a posted one-way street. Officers stopped the motor vehicle and found the driver had a suspended license. In addition, officers were able to view a glassine bag with a substance believed to be marijuana in plain view. The operator was arrested and charged with possession of a class D and several driving offenses.

Detectives observed a street level drug transaction between two male individuals. Both parties were placed under arrest for Possession With Intent to Distribute A Class B Drug and Conspiracy to Violate A Drug Law.

Cottage Street

A victim reported that while walking home from work, a man came up behind her grabbed her shoulders and put his legs around hers to restrict her movement. The suspect then demanded that the victim give him her money. The victim handed over an envelope with money in it. He let go and she fled without getting a good look at the suspect.

Laurel St.

A reporting party stated that while she was sitting in her living room, she heard seven possible gunshots from a distance as far as Dana Park. She reported that seconds after hearing the gunshots, she heard a vehicle accelerated down River St. but was unsure if the two incidents were related. A search of the area cleared the area with negative results.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Crime Prevention Tips

This section contains tips on how to help protect yourself against the crimes listed in the log above.

Street Robberies

You are always at a higher risk for being robbed late at night and on dark streets.  Try to avoid these areas.  Avoid public parks and areas with excessive trees and bushes.  Avoid deserted areas and shortcuts.  Walk close to the curb, except where cars pull in.  Always walk briskly and confidently.  Be aware of who is around you and what is going on.  Have your keys ready so you can unlock your car door, or the door to your home.  If you ever feel threatened, draw attention to yourself by making plenty of noise.

If robbed, always treat any firearm displayed by a robber as being loaded.  Follow the robber’s instructions.  It is not worth being seriously hurt by resisting.

Study the robber as closely as possible.  Take note of their race, age, height, sex, clothing, speech characteristics and scars.  It may help to see if the robber resembles anyone famous that has similar features.  Try to note which direction they flee after the robbery.  Call 911 as soon as possible and relay this information.

When speaking to the Emergency Communication Center, give the exact address of where the robbery occurred.  Describe exactly what happened as clearly as possible.  Describe the robbers and let the dispatcher know if the person is still in view, how long ago they left and if any weapons were shown.  Also state whether medical attention is needed.

Landscaping

Shrubbery should be 18 to 24 inches away from all exits or entrances.  Shrubbery should be no higher than 18 inches.  Make sure all possible entrances and exit points and windows are visible, not concealed by shrubbery.

  • Doorways
  • Garage Doors
  • Bay Doors
  • All other entrance of exits
  • Windows for visibility and to detect breakage
  • Alcoves or hidden areas
  • Basement entries

  • Continuous Lighting

Motion-Sensored Lighting/Automatic floodlights that use infrared sensors to detect any type of motion.

The 24-hour anonymous drug Tip Hot Line is a mechanism for citizens to provide the Special Investigations Unit with information relating to illicit drug use and distribution, as well as vice issues such as prostitution and gambling. 

When a citizen calls the above number, he or she will generally hear a taped message asking the caller to speak as long as you like.  Explain the activity in as much detail as possible, including the following information:

  • Location of the Incident:  Street address of building or house, names of nearest intersecting streets, landmarks near or at the scene.
  • Description of Persons Involved: Height, sex, age, weight, clothing, hair color, eye color, skin color and any distinguishing marks.
  • Description of vehicles involved: Make, model, color and license plate.

You do not have to provide your name, address, or telephone number. 

Should you witness a drug crime that requires immediate police response, DIAL 9-1-1 and police will be dispatched to the area.
