Drug Arrest

Auburn St. & Pearl St.
Detectives observed a street level drug transaction between two male individuals. Both parties were placed under arrest for Possession With Intent to Distribute A Class B Drug and Conspiracy to Violate A Drug Law.

9.16.08, 2:22 PM – 3:00 PM
Cottage Street
A victim reported that while walking home from work, a man came up behind her grabbed her shoulders and put his legs around hers to restrict her movement. The suspect then demanded that the victim give him her money. The victim handed over an envelope with money in it. He let go and she fled without getting a good look at the suspect.

Laurel St.
A reporting party stated that while she was sitting in her living room, she heard seven possible gunshots from a distance as far as Dana Park. She reported that seconds after hearing the gunshots, she heard a vehicle accelerated down River St. but was unsure if the two incidents were related. A search of the area cleared the area with negative results.
Larceny From Motor Vehicle

Pearl St.
A victim was awoken when he heard glass breaking outside of his home. He turned on his porch light and observed a man rummaging through his truck via the passenger side window. The victim ran out and yelled that he was going to call the police and the defendant pulled out some tools in the truck and then fled. Officers stopped the defendant and performed a show up. The victim was able to positively identify the defendant and his tools were found in the defendant’s truck.

Pearl Street
A victim reported that she was sitting outside the Pearl St. Laundromat with her laptop on the seat next to her. She had her hand on it, when two black males grabbed it and fled. Witnesses to the crime chased down the two suspects. Witnesses were able to corner one of the defendants and hold him until police arrived. Police found the second defendant hiding and had to chase him down. The victim was able to positively identity the suspects.
Receiving Stolen Property

Mass. Ave.
Officers observed the defendant who they recognized and had knowledge of outstanding warrants out for his arrest. While waiting for the confirmation of warrants the defendant fled from the area. Other Officers stopped him. While placing the defendant under arrest he had a large amount of Wine and Champagne in a plastic bag. The defendant stated that he bought the bag in Central Square. After investigation, it was determined that the wine was stolen property. The wine was taken from Trader Joes as indicated on the price tags.

8.13.08, 10:30 PM – 11:00 PM
Mass. Ave.
An off-duty officer in plain clothes was riding his motorcycle into work when he observed a large group in front of Supreme Liquors. The defendant approached the victim and yelled and swore while throwing his cane at him. The cane struck the victim’s leg/foot. The defendant was taken into custody.

Auburn St. & Magazine St.
A victim had reported that while walking in Central Square a man came up behind her and grabbed money out of her hand and ran. Three days later, the victim saw the man that had stolen her money. She flagged down officers and pointed him out saying she was positive it was him. The suspect fled but was stopped a few blocks away. He was positively identified and placed under arrest for unarmed robbery.

Hamilton Street
Officers responded to Hamilton St. after several 911 calls reported hearing gunshots in the area. Responding units reported recovering 5 spent .32 shell casings in the area. A search of the area revealed no other signs of any suspects. None of the witnesses who heard the gunshots saw any suspects. They didn’t hear or see any motor vehicles either.
Firearms Possession
7.24.08, 4:46 PM
Mass. Ave.
Officers responded to calls about a man with a bag containing what appeared to be a sword or firearm. The officers noticed a trash bag by the bus stop and found inside two .22 caliber rifles. A man returned matching the suspect’s description. Officers asked him if he was looking for anything and he replied yes. The man was unable to produce a firearms license. He told officers he found the guns in the trash and was trying to sell them. He was transferred to CPD and booked.

Massachusetts Avenue & Pearl Street
Officers observed two males, identified as Roberto Ruiz, 43, of Cambridge, MA and Joseph Barboza, 42, of Cambridge MA, fighting in Central Square. Ruiz stopped when he saw police, but officers had to restrain Barboza. Both were placed under arrest for mutual A&B and disorderly conduct.

Kelly Road
A victim states that three males knocked at her door looking for her brother. Her boyfriend informed them that her brother wasn’t home. Soon after they left, a rock was thrown through the first floor window that hit the victim. The victim’s boyfriend and friend chased after the three males. They returned and explained to officers that they found the males and a fight ensued. The victim’s boyfriend sustained two puncture wounds to his lower back. The suspect was described as a black male, 16-20yrs wearing a white tank top, jeans and possible NY baseball hat.

Sidney Street
A reporting party states that sometime over the long weekend an unknown person gained entry into the building and removed a brand new 42” Toshiba LCD flat screen TV that was still in its box. The alarm was found “disarmed” when she returned and there were 2 pass key entries made over the long weekend.

Brookline St & Mass Ave
A male suspect was arrested after he attacked a vehicle, kicking the window out and the motorist inside. He thought the vehicle had come too close to him in the crosswalk at Mass & Brookline. Minor injuries were sustained by the driver.
Youth Arrested in for Housebreak Attempt
6.12.08 – 9:46 pm
Erie St & Pearl St
A witness saw a large group of 8-10 youths in the area of Erie St & Pearl St. When he returned 10 minutes later, he saw one of the youths in the yard of an Erie St home, attempting to open one of the windows on the ground floor from the outside. The witness immediately called police, and when officers arrived they found the juvenile suspect and arrested him. Investigation revealed that a knife had been used to cut the window screen.

Cambridge Police Detectives arrested two suspects after they were observed making a drug transaction. They were arrested and charged with Poss/Class B.

A female suspect was arrested and another was summonsed after they were discovered to have marijuana, prescription narcotics, and cocaine.

100 River St
Suspect was arrested for a subsequent offense of heroin possession and OUI-Drugs after he was observed slumped over in his car and a search revealed hypodermic syringes with heroin residue.
Street Robbery

Pearl St & Decatur St
Victim was walking by Decatur St on Pearl St when three black male suspects approached him, knocked him into a fence, and demanded his cell phone. The victim refused, and one of the suspects grabbed his messenger bag. All the suspects fled on Pearl St. towards Mass Ave.
This is the first street robbery of the year in this area of Cambridgeport.

Two men were arrested after pulling two men out of their car and assaulting them. The suspects allege that the car swerved and encroached upon the bike lane on Mass Ave. One of the victims was knocked unconscious.

Officers responded to a report of a man assaulting a security guard. The man had been trespassed from the area a few hours earlier but had returned. During the fight, the suspect attempted to grab a knife from his back pocket.

A 26-year-old male victim was walking down Decatur St when a black male suspect in his late teens knocked him to the ground and demanded all this money. There was an additional suspect that was on a bike and described as a black male, late teens, 6’3 with a thin build. The suspects fled up Decatur, turning onto Brookline St.
Assault and Battery on a Police Officer

Middle East
Two patrons that had been asked to leave the Middle East earlier in the evening of the 5th returned, and attempted to entice people to fight them. One of the suspects grabbed a police officer and tried to swing him around. The erratic behavior of the suspects also spilled out into the street, temporarily halting the flow of traffic in Central Square.
Shooting Inside Hi-Fi Pizza
496 Mass Ave – 3.29.08 – 2:50 am
While ticketing double-parked cars outside of the Hi-Fi, an officer saw a male suspect fire a round from a 9mm handgun in the restaurant. The suspect was ordered to drop the gun and was quickly apprehended. While he was being handcuffed, the victim of the shooting started screaming at the suspect. He then took off running and managed to escape in a 2001 black Lexus. The victim has not been located since fleeing the scene. No other injuries occurred.

Street Robberies
You are always at a higher risk for being robbed late at night and on dark streets. Try to avoid these areas. Avoid public parks and areas with excessive trees and bushes. Avoid deserted areas and shortcuts. Walk close to the curb, except where cars pull in. Always walk briskly and confidently. Be aware of who is around you and what is going on. Have your keys ready so you can unlock your car door, or the door to your home. If you ever feel threatened, draw attention to yourself by making plenty of noise.
If robbed, always treat any firearm displayed by a robber as being loaded. Follow the robber’s instructions. It is not worth being seriously hurt by resisting.
Study the robber as closely as possible. Take note of their race, age, height, sex, clothing, speech characteristics and scars. It may help to see if the robber resembles anyone famous that has similar features. Try to note which direction they flee after the robbery. Call 911 as soon as possible and relay this information.
When speaking to the Emergency Communication Center, give the exact address of where the robbery occurred. Describe exactly what happened as clearly as possible. Describe the robbers and let the dispatcher know if the person is still in view, how long ago they left and if any weapons were shown. Also state whether medical attention is needed.

When a citizen calls the above number, he or she will generally hear a taped message asking the caller to speak as long as you like. Explain the activity in as much detail as possible, including the following information:

Location of the Incident: Street address of building or house, names of nearest intersecting streets, landmarks near or at the scene.

Description of Persons Involved: Height, sex, age, weight, clothing, hair color, eye color, skin color and any distinguishing marks.
