Reporting party stated that an unknown man came to her house asking for someone who did not live there. The woman left her house shortly after. Reporting party stated that after returning home, she noticed that her roommate’s Play station was missing.

The reporting party stated that an unknown black male suspect approached the counter with a pack of gum and when the reporting party opened the cash drawer, the suspect displayed a gun and demanded money from both registers. The reporting party handed the suspect the money and the suspect fled in an unknown direction.

The arrested party assaulted the victim after the victim witnessed the arrested party urinating in public and asked him to move along. The arrested party then threatened that he would return later with a gun. The victim followed the arrested party to get a description during which time the arrested party assaulted him.

Kevin DesRoches was arrested after he choked a cab driver with his bare hands. The victim was able to free himself and get help.

Jane Curtis was arrested after a witness observed her attempting to get into several doors in the area using an unknown object. The witness stated that Curtis was acting very suspicious and kept looking behind her.

The victim stated that an unknown suspect broke into her residence by forcing the front door. The suspect stole a digital camera and checkbook.

The victim stated that he was talking on his cell phone while waiting to cross the street when an unknown white male suspect pushed him and stole his cell phone. The suspect took off down Temple St. toward Bishop Allen Dr.

Alex Mitchell was arrested for Operating after License Suspension after being stopped for multiple driving violations. Jonathan Bourinot, a passenger in the car, was found to be in possession of a pair of brass knuckles, several bags of marijuana, and an unmarked bag containing pills. Bourinot was charged with Possession to Distribute Class D and E Substances, Drug Violation in a School Zone, and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon.

The victim stated that 3 unknown suspects, all ages 17-25, assaulted him and stole his iPod. The victim was walking from the lot of the Baptist Church when the suspects approached and asked him for a cigarette. When the victim turned toward the suspects, one suspect grabbed him from behind and the other 2 suspects began punching him in the head. The victim fell to the ground and the suspects began kicking him in the shoulder and chest area. The suspects fled with the victim's iPod.

Officers responded to a family residence for a house alarm and observed a side window slightly open that appeared to have been tampered with. Upon entering the house, officers determined that no entry was gained by the suspect.

The victim stated that he was stabbed by two suspects in the parking lot after they attempted to rob him. The wounds were not life threatening.

The victims reported that an unknown person entered their apartment through the locked rear door. Pieces of wood from the damaged door frame were seen on kitchen floor. The apartment was in disarray and a Mac Book laptop, iPod, coral necklace, silver necklace, and pearl and diamond necklace were stolen.

A victim was walking when she noticed a black male walking closely behind her. The victim felt uncomfortable and started walking in the street when she felt someone grabbing at her purse. She started screaming for help when two people came to her aid. The suspect fled towards Central Sq. The suspect was described as a black male, 14-15 years old, wearing a beige hooded jacket.

The victim reported that a white male suspect entered the store with a red mask over his face and started banging a black metal object believed to be a firearm on the counter and demanded money. The victim gave money to the suspect who placed the money in a white bag with a blue string. A witness who was entering the store as the suspect was walking out stated the mask looked like a t-shirt with holes around the eye area cut out. The suspect got into the driver's seat of a brown/gold color motor vehicle. Description: WM, 30-35yrs, 6 feet 3 inches tall, medium build, light brown curly/wavy messy hair, wearing jeans and a black jacket.

The suspect fled and victim tried to chase after him but lost sight of the suspect. Officers stopped a suspect matching the victim's description. The victim positively identified the suspect and officers placed him under arrest.

A victim reported that she was housesitting for a friend when she received a phone call from a neighbor informing her that they had witnessed a man standing on a cinder block outside her window. The victim stated that when she left her apartment the window was closed and after speaking with her neighbors, she checked again and it was partially open. Nothing appeared to be taken or disturbed. The neighbor could not provide a description but stated that it appeared the suspect had some kind of camera.

A victim leases the floor for his law offices and sub leases one office to another company. He returned to work to find the leased office damaged by cigarette burns and garbage strewn about.

A victim reported that while walking, she was approached by black males. One of the suspects asked her for the time and the other then demanded all her money. The victim stated that one of the suspects had his hand inside his jacket as if he had a weapon but she didn't see anything. The victim handed them money and the suspects fled to a waiting motor vehicle that was operated by a white female and they fled towards Somerville. The suspects were described as two black males, about 16-17years old, one was wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and the other a light colored hooded sweatshirt.

A victim stated that a suspect entered the store and placed some type of mask over his face and displayed an unknown black object, possibly a knife or gun, and demanded money and scratch tickets. The suspect grabbed the victim by the scruff of the neck and pushed him behind the counter. The victim gave the suspect cash from the register and scratch tickets and the victim fled. The suspect was described as a black male, in his 40s, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Officers responded to CCH to meet with a victim of an aggravated assault. The victim stated that while waiting for the bus, an unknown person struck him in the side of the head with a glass bottle. The victim did not see the suspect and was unable to give officers any more details of the attack. He suffered a fracture to his skull area.

Detectives arrested one male suspect for Possession of a Class A and another male suspect for Distributing a Class A, drug violation near a school and driving offenses. The arrests took place after detectives observed the men engaging in suspicious activity.

Two victims reported that while walking on Cambridge St. near Cambridge Rindge and Latin School they were approached by the suspect who brandished a small silver revolver style handgun with a small black piece on the top of it. He placed it against the stomach of one of the victim's and took his cell phone and wallet and then demanded the other victim hand over his wallet. The victims walked to Harvard Yard and used a police callbox. HUPD notified CPD. A show up of an individual stopped by HUPD was negative. The suspect was described as a white male, 5 foot 8 inches tall, heavy build, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up over his head.

A victim reported returning home from work to find a necklace missing from her apartment. She noticed that several items on a shelf had been moved around and that a dark blue box with the necklace was missing. There were no signs of forced entry. The victim stated that the building manager had let a plumber in that day to fix a leak.

A victim stated that an unknown person(s) attempted to steal the tires off of her 2000 Honda Accord. A hubcap and several lug nuts were taken from the motor vehicle while it was parked in the rear lot of her residence.

Officers responded to a report of two black males that had just shoplifted from a liquor store. Officers noticed the suspects by the description given from the store manager. The suspects were both apprehended. The store manager was able to positively ID both suspects. One of the suspects was later found to have provided a false name.

A manager of the YWCA reported that upon inspection of a room in the building, she observed evidence leading her to believe that a fire was burned in the room. The reporting party stated that she observed the sprinkler heads taped and bagged and trails of a substance that would lead one to believe a fire was lit. Cambridge Fire Arson Investigation Unit was notified.

A reporting party stated that his wife operates a psychotherapy practice from the listed address. Someone entered the building during the listed time and stole two laptops from the second floor study/office. There was no sign of forced entry or visible damage.

A victim reported that someone pried open his office door located in the basement of the Old Baptist Church. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole his Toshiba laptop. The suspect(s) also attempted to open another office door but were unsuccessful.

Crime Prevention Tips

This section contains tips on how to help protect yourself against the crimes listed in the log above.

Street Robberies

You are always at a higher risk for being robbed late at night and on dark streets.  Try to avoid these areas.  Avoid public parks and areas with excessive trees and bushes.  Avoid deserted areas and shortcuts.  Walk close to the curb, except where cars pull in.  Always walk briskly and confidently.  Be aware of who is around you and what is going on.  Have your keys ready so you can unlock your car door, or the door to your home.  If you ever feel threatened, draw attention to yourself by making plenty of noise.

If robbed, always treat any firearm displayed by a robber as being loaded.  Follow the robber’s instructions.  It is not worth being seriously hurt by resisting.

Study the robber as closely as possible.  Take note of their race, age, height, sex, clothing, speech characteristics and scars.  It may help to see if the robber resembles anyone famous that has similar features.  Try to note which direction they flee after the robbery.  Call 911 as soon as possible and relay this information.

When speaking to the Emergency Communication Center, give the exact address of where the robbery occurred.  Describe exactly what happened as clearly as possible.  Describe the robbers and let the dispatcher know if the person is still in view, how long ago they left and if any weapons were shown.  Also state whether medical attention is needed.

Landscaping

Shrubbery should be 18 to 24 inches away from all exits or entrances.  Shrubbery should be no higher than 18 inches.  Make sure all possible entrances and exit points and windows are visible, not concealed by shrubbery.

  • Bay Doors
  • All other entrance of exits
  • Windows for visibility and to detect breakage
  • Alcoves or hidden areas
  • Basement entries

Motion-Sensored Lighting/Automatic floodlights that use infrared sensors to detect any type of motion.

The 24-hour anonymous drug Tip Hot Line is a mechanism for citizens to provide the Special Investigations Unit with information relating to illicit drug use and distribution, as well as vice issues such as prostitution and gambling. 

When a citizen calls the above number, he or she will generally hear a taped message asking the caller to speak as long as you like.  Explain the activity in as much detail as possible, including the following information:

  • Location of the Incident:  Street address of building or house, names of nearest intersecting streets, landmarks near or at the scene.
  • Description of Persons Involved: Height, sex, age, weight, clothing, hair color, eye color, skin color and any distinguishing marks.
  • Description of vehicles involved: Make, model, color and license plate.

You do not have to provide your name, address, or telephone number. 

Should you witness a drug crime that requires immediate police response, DIAL 9-1-1 and police will be dispatched to the area.
