Cambridge Public Library
                         Board of Library Trustees



A regular meeting of the Board of Library Trustees was held on Monday, March
3, 1997 at 7:30 in the Administration Office, 449 Broadway, Cambridge.

The following members of the board of Library Trustees were present:  
          Mrs. Olive Johnson, Chairperson
          Mr. John A.P. Good, Treasurer
          Ms. Janet Axelrod
          Mr. Andre Mayer
          Mr. James Roosevelt, Jr.
          also present:
          Susan M. Flannery, Director of Libraries
          Marian Hampton, Assistant Director
          Marilyn Gagalis, Administrative Assistant

A motion to accept the minutes of the February 1997 meeting was passed
unanimously.

Correspondance was read from the following:  Mary Alice Harrington, Robert
Clark, City Council (resolution) , Susan May Danseyar and Weixing Wang.

Old Business:
Ms. Flannery reported that the proposed contract between the library and the
Cambridge Community Foundation is currently being reviewed by the
Foundation's Attorney.

Ms. Flannery also announced the future meetings for Library 21:  March 18,
April 15, and May 22.   

On the topic of advocacy for library expansion, Ms. Flannery told the Board
that she had visited Bridgewater Public Library to tour the new building and
discuss the planning process with the Library Director.  The Bridgwater
Director suggested that we plan another round of tours to encompass a wider
range of residents.  Board members decided to consider this at a future
meeting.

New Business:
Mrs. Johnson commended the library on the outstanding Black History Month
programs that were held throughout the library system.  She also requested
that we put a sign on the library lawn next year commemorating Black History
Month.  

The next regular meeting will be held on Monday, April 7, 1997 at 7:30 p.m.

There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
