Board of Library Trustees Minutes

A regular meeting of the Board of Library Trustees was held on Monday, November 6, 2000 in the Director’s Office of the Main Library. The following members of the Board of Library Trustees were present:

Minutes of the October meeting were approved.

Correspondence was acknowledged.

A motion was passed for Susan Flannery to draft a response to the letter from CPLSA President Jean Williams. James Roosevelt will proof read and approve this draft. Board members discussed the draft of a timeline prepared by Nancy Woods. The Board unanimously agreed upon several changes. These changes will be made and a revised copy will be provided to each Board Member by the next meeting.

Board members discussed plans for advocating a decision on the new Main Library and it was agreed that Bill Barry would speak for the Board at the next Council meeting regarding the library site.

Ms. Flannery informed the Board that at their recent meeting the Friends of the Library decided to donate a portable keyboard in memory of Library Friend Emily West, and also to provide funding for the Children’s books for Main and branches and for the purchase of AV materials system-wide.

Ms. Flannery also informed the Board that a local artists had been selected by the Cambridge Women’s History Art Project (a collaboration between Arts Council & Women’s Commission) to prepare art work for the new main library building. Board members were interested in the process by which this artist was chosen and requested that the library investigate this further. They also asked Ms. Flannery to send a letter to the Arts Council & Women’s Commission expressing their interest and hope for a mutually approved project.

There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 9:35 p.m. The next meeting of the Board will be on Monday, December 4, 2000 at 6:30 p.m. in the Main Library.
