Board of Library Trustees Minutes

A regular meeting of the Board of Library Trustees was held on Tuesday, September 11, 2000 in the Director’s Office of the Main Library. The following members of the Board of Library Trustees were present:

Minutes of the June meeting were approved.

Correspondence was acknowledged from Burt & Ellen Good, Olivia Armato, Shoko Fujiyoshi, and Richard Benefield.

Ms. Flannery discussed the proposal by Mr. Benefield, Assistant Director of the Harvard Art Museums to admit Cambridge Public Library card holders free of charge. She will meet with Mr. Benefield in the upcoming weeks to confirm this program.

Board members continued their work revising the strategic plan. Susan Flannery and Andre Mayer will edit this work in progress before the next meeting.

Discussion on the communications plan was postponed due to the absence of Nancy Woods who requested this agenda item and drafted the plan.

Susan Flannery reported on the zoning changes passed by the City Council on September 5, 2000 regarding the placement of public library buildings within the City of Cambridge. Ms. Flannery also reported that the firm of Pfeufer/Richardson of Cambridge has been selected to conduct the feasibility study of the Prospect Street parking lots. This study is due to be completed in late October.

Susan Flannery also reported on the status of the O’Neill Branch Library construction and the temporary move of this branch to the Fitzgerald School which is slated for mid to late October.

Board members watched a new promotional video about the Cambridge Public Library that was produced by the Cable Television Department in coordination with library staff members to be used as an outreach tool.

There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.

The next meeting of the Board will be on Monday, October 2, 2000 at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Library.
