Cambridge Public Library Board of Library Trustees
April 7, 1997

A regular meeting of the Board of Library Trustees was held on Monday, April 7, 1997 at 7:30 in the Administration Office, 449 Broadway, Cambridge.

The following members of the board of Library Trustees were present:

Mrs. Olive Johnson, Chairperson
Mr. John A.P. Good, Treasurer
Ms. Janet Axelrod Mr. Andre Mayer
also present:
Susan M. Flannery, Director of Libraries
Marian Hampton, Assistant Director
Marilyn Gagalis, Administrative Assistant

A motion to accept the minutes, as amended, of the March 1997 meeting was passed unanimously.

Correspondence was read from the following: Keith Michael Fiels, Linda Clapp, Cheryl Townsend Gilkes, Pearlina Mills and Faith Chase.

Old Business: Ms. Flannery notified the board of budget increases that had been approved by the City Manager. She also informed them that the library's budget hearing before City Council will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 1997 at 5:30 p.m.

Andre Mayer updated Board members on the status of Library 21. He reported that the Library 21 members are generally in agreement concerning the building program but not concerning the site. A report of their findings may be completed by May.

Ms. Flannery provided the Board with updated "Friends" membership information, reminded them of the upcoming Author Luncheon and distributed a draft of by-laws for the "Friends" for their approval. The Board decided unanimously to request Rita Richmond of the "Friends" to join them at their May meeting for an update on the activities, etc of the "Friends of the Cambridge Public library."

New Business: Ms. Flannery informed Board members that the Massachusetts Library Association's Legislative Day will be on Wednesday, April 9, 1997 at 11:30. She invited any interested Board members to join her at the State House for this event. In addition, there will be a Legislative Breakfast The next regular meeting will be held on Monday, May 5, 1997 at 7:30 p.m.

There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
