Board of Library Trustees Minutes

A regular meeting of the Board of Library Trustees was held on Monday, January 4, 1999 at 7:30 in the Director's Office of the Main Library. The following members of the Board of Library Trustees were present:

• Mr. Andre Mayer
• Mr. John Good

• Marilyn Gagalis, Administrative Assistant

Janet Axelrod was elected chairperson pro tem. A motion to accept the minutes of the November 1998 meeting was passed. Correspondence was acknowledged from Mary Rogers, Toshiaki Miike, Jamie Katz, Anabela Quelha & Beatrice Lopes, Faith Chase, and Keith Michael Fiels.

Andre Mayer reported on the status of the Main Library site search. There has been no action taken and no date has been set for a City Council hearing on this project. Board members decided unanimously that they would move forward with their advocacy for a new Main Library on the current site. Board members decided to prepare an editorial for the Cambridge Chronicle to explain to the public the purpose of the public survey to be mailed this month. Janet Axelrod will prepare a statement for board approval.

Board members were provided an update on personnel matters including the hiring of Gail Willett as grant coordinator for the library's "On Common Ground" grant funded by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Ms. Willett is the owner/operator of Savanna Books, formerly of Cambridge.

Board members were informed that a grand opening ceremony for the Rotary Technology Center is being planned for February. When the date is chosen, the trustees will be notified.

The next meeting of the Board of Library Trustees will be on Monday, February 1, 1999 at 7:30 p.m. at the Main Library. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
