Board of Library Trustees Minutes

A regular meeting of the Board of Library Trustees was held on Monday, July 6, 1998 at 7:30 in the Director's Office of the Main Library.

The following members of the Board of Library Trustees were present:

• Ms. Janet Axelrod
• Mr. John Good
• Mr. Andre Mayer

also present:

• Susan M. Flannery, Director of Libraries
• Marian Hampton, Associate Director

A motion to accept the minutes of the June 1998 meeting was passed.

Board members asked Ms. Flannery if the MBTA bus line on Broadway had begun. Ms. Flannery will check and inform the Board of the status at the next meeting.

Ms. Flannery announced that Sasaki Associates will make their final presentation on possible Main Library sites to the Cambridge City Council on Tuesday, July 21, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. in Sullivan Chambers.

Ms. Flannery also informed the Board that the Children's Room Web page has been linked with Yahooligans, a popular search engine on the web. This gives great visibility to not only the Children's room but the Cambridge Public Library as well.

The O'Connell Branch Library will be closing from July 20th through August 19th for renovations. ADA improvements will include the creation of a wheelchair accessible restroom and a ramp for wheelchair access to the building. During this time, the O'Connell Branch will operate on a limited basis from the Kennedy School and will continue their regular programs without interruption. The re-opening celebration will take place on Thursday, August 20th at 6:00 p.m. with the final party for Starship Read. Press releases have been issued to all local newspapers regarding the O'Connell Branch and notices have been put in both the Staff newsletter and the Friends' newsletter.

The next meeting of the Board of Library Trustees will be on Monday, September 14, 1998 at 7:30 p.m. at the Main Library. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
