Fresh Pond Reservation Purple Loosestrife Biocontrol Project
Phase 1 Little Fresh Pond Release

We will need to purchase and release beetles for 3 to 4 years to establish a population large enough to control and diminish the number of purple loosestrife plants at Little Fresh Pond.  Once the purple loosestrife population has been depleted there, the beetles will move on to a new stand of purple loosestrife to feed and reproduce.

We will be monitoring the beetle and the purple loosestrife population at Little Fresh Pond through the use of monitoring quadrats.  We have established 5 monitoring sites within the wetland at Little Fresh Pond and conducted two fall monitorings.  We will continue to monitor twice a year, in the summer and fall to observe changes.   Please join us!  Contact Elizabeth Wylde at friendsoffreshpond@yahoo.com or Hannah Wilbur at 617 349 6489 to sign up!
