Managing Difficult Emotions is a self-management /program developed by Sandra Lisboa, Everett Older Adult Program Coordinator – CHA/ Community Affairs Dept (who has a background in Psychology and Gerontology in Brazil) and Regina Kelly, LICSW, Geriatric Social Worker – CHA/ Geriatric Psychiatric Department. The program is funded by DPH - Suicide Prevention Grant. The curriculum gives the group an overview of the most common types of mental disorders as well as the link between emotions and mental disorders, in particular, depression and anxiety. The group will run between, in 6 to 8 sessions (depending on group engagement). Various topics are covered along with activities such as brainstorming, problem solving and behavior activation.

The group explores many treatments including alternative therapies and relaxation and positive thinking techniques.
