Baby University Graduation
On Saturday, June 7th Baby U had its sixth graduation. Twenty-six parents of very young children completed the 16 week series of workshops and playgroups. They now join the 142 parents who are alumni of the program already. On hand to offer congratulations was the Mayor David Maher, City Manager Richard Rossi, Deputy City Manager Lisa Peterson, and Assistant City Manager Ellen Semonoff as well as other dignitaries. Highlights of the day included speeches by three of the graduating parents, a parade of the children who entered the auditorium to “We Are Family” and an awesome slideshow.
“It takes a village” not only to raise a child, but also to make Baby U a successful program.
Baby U staff would like to thank the many people who have contributed to the program through their active support, especially the steering committee headed by Jen Baily and Lei-Anne Ellis for the countless hours they have spent on program design and implementation, strategic planning, and fund-raising. Also, we appreciate the amazing child care staff who cared so well for the children, making it possible for parents to have the space needed to focus on their own learning and development.
It was great to be together on Saturday to celebrate and acknowledge the important work of raising a new generation of young people.
