MBTA The Ride (ADA Paratransit Program)

The RIDE provides door-to-door paratransit service to sixty cities and towns for eligible customers who cannot use subways, buses, or trains due to a physical, mental, or cognitive disability.

Only registered RIDE customers, their Personal Care Assistants, and their guests may take advantage of the service.

New or re-certifying applicants to The RIDE must apply for or renew their eligibility by appearing in-person for an interview with a Mobility Coordinator at The RIDE Eligibility Center, 1000 Massachusetts Avenue, 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02118. The RIDE will provide free round trip door-to-door transportation to and from an applicant’s in-person assessment. However, an individual must be approved for The RIDE before regular service can begin. Additionally, individuals must reside within The RIDE service area.

The RIDE is a first-come, first-serve service, and there are no restrictions on trip purpose.

As of July 1, 2016, the local one-way fare for each registered passenger is $3.15 within the standard ADA zone of travel, and one-way premium trips are $5.25.  The RIDE fleet of vehicles is equipped to carry both ambulatory persons and wheelchair users, and each registered user is permitted one guest at no charge.

The driver will help a passenger up or down from curbside to the vehicle and/or up or down from one additional step. For more information or to request an in-person assessment to determine your eligibility, contact The RIDE Eligibility Center at 617-337-2727, or visit their website.
