The Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD) was established in 1979 to serve as a resource in the Cambridge community to address access, equal rights, and other issues of concern to people with disabilities.
What Does The Commission Do?
- provides information, referral, coordination, and technical assistance to public and private entities interested in providing access to persons with disabilities.
- responds to the concerns of Cambridge residents with disabilities.
- works in conjunction with all City departments to address the concerns and needs of persons with disabilities.
- strives for adoption and implementation of equal status legislation, including the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
- promotes a more accessible community for people with disabilities by advancing universal design and barrier removal activities.
- runs the City's temporary handicap parking permit program and co-administers (with the Council on Aging) the Cambridge Taxi Discount Program.
- provide disability awareness training to City departments and private entities on disability issues.
- the CCPD board meets on the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. to discuss disability policies, recommend improvements, and to report on progress of existing programs.
