How the Program Works:
Eligible Cambridge residents may register at the Council on Aging or at the Commission for Persons with Disabilities. Registration may also be conducted over the telephone. Addresses and phone numbers are listed below.
Coupons are issued in books of 10. Each coupon is worth $2.25, and can used instead of cash to pay for part of a taxi fare provided by a licensed Cambridge taxi driver. If the fare is $2.25 to $6.50, passengers will subtract $2.25 from the meter, pay the remainder in cash, and give the driver a $2.25 coupon. If the fare is over $6.50, $4.50 may be subtracted from the meter, two coupons used, and the balance paid in cash. A maximum of two coupons may be used for any one-way trip, regardless of the amount of the fare.
Coupons may be used to travel to or from any destination, provided you are using a licensed Cambridge taxi.
Passenger Responsibilities:
Passengers may not loan or give their coupons to another person. Also, passengers use the coupons they have been issued before ordering additional coupons. No replacements will be issued for coupons that are lost or misplaced.
Before turning coupons in to a taxi driver, the passenger must write his/her name on each taxi coupon. Taxi drivers must complete the information on the bottom of the coupons.
Passenger Rights:
All passengers have the right to courteous service. Should any service problems occur, they should be reported to the Cambridge License Commission (349-6140). Be sure to note the medallion number of the cab.
