How to Apply?
Most applicants who were eligible for benefits last year should receive an application in the mail by the beginning of October.
New applications will be taken starting in mid-October. Call 617-349-6252 after October 1 to make an appointment to apply. Income documentation for your household will be required, along with proof of address and verification of how you heat. Our office is located at 51 Inman Street(basement), in Cambridge and is handicapped accessible. We're open 8:30 to 5 and have English and Spanish speaking intake workers available.
Special arrangements can be made to take your application if you're Homebound and unable to come to the office. If you are in a no heat situation or facing immediate utility shutoff you will be seen the same day you call, however, no funds can be committed until November 1.
If you're not eligible for Fuel Assistance and heat with oil we may be able to arrange a Citizens Energy (Joe Kennedy) oil delivery. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) funds are usually available mid-winter for help with utilities.
