The Information Technology Department delivers six core services ultimately designed to improve government services, our community and the lives of the City's customers - individuals and organizations who live, work, and/or visit our community, physically and virtually through the Internet. This page highlights only a few of this department's many accomplishments.
Data Network Services
Provides a seamless data network connecting all of the City's 1000+ computers and City departments together and to the Internet. The Information Technology Department provides data networking internal to many departments and maintains xxx miles of optical fiber cable.
Servers
Provides, operates and maintains Microsoft Windows, UNIX and VMS servers for a variety of City-government-wide and departmental enterprise applications. Maintains 24x7 operations in the City's data center.
Support
Support approximately 1000 desktop computers in a number of departments. Troubleshoot and repair hardware and software issues the affect the user community. Upgrade and install applications as needed.
Training
Because basic technology skills are essential to the success of virtually every City employee today, the Information Technology Department provides courses to employees who are required to work with various types of software to serve the community more efficiently.
Internet Bill Payment
The Information Technology Department provides convenient, cost-effective, scalable and highly secure online payment capabilities for a variety of Cambridge business applications, including the following:
- Parking Tickets
- Motor Vehicle Excise
- Water Bills
- Real Estate Taxes
- Personal Property Taxes
GIS
Provide users with the ability to view map information and perform complex geographic data analysis including modeling and forecasting, as well as more standard type operations such as 'what is here', and 'where are these', etc. Other functions enable database information that is stored in any number of databases to be linked and displayed or queried through a computer map
