The Business Services Division provides the Public Works Department with fiscal services, including

  • Purchasing $9 million in goods and services each year
  • Paying more than 7,000 invoices each year
  • Administering more than $155 million in construction funds
  • Developing energy efficiency programs for City properties.

Payments: In addition to cash and checks, DPW accepts Master Card and Visa from walk-in customers for transactions up to $1,000, for the purchase of:

  • Appliance stickers (for picking up large appliances)
  • Commemorative and client trees
  • Commercial rubbish pick-up
  • Composting bins
  • News rack fees
  • Permits
  • Photocopies of maps and other documents
  • Sewer connection fees

The DPW is located at 147 Hampshire Street, Cambridge, MA 02139. Our hours of operation are:

Monday 8:30 am - 8:00 pm
Tuesday - Thursday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Friday 8:30 am - noon

 

Energy Efficiency Programs:
The DPW develops energy efficiency programs to help the City save money and improve the environment. Some of our current and completed projects include:

  • Tracking energy use and savings by building
  • Educating purchasing and facilities staff about energy-efficient appliances and equipment
  • Organizing utility-sponsored energy programs and trainings
  • Arranging for funding assistance from NStar for high-efficiency equipment at:
    • City Hall, Senior Center, Coffon and Lombardi building heating, air conditioning and ventilation renovations
    • Area 4 Youth Center, Danehy Park and First Street Garage lighting improvements in conjunction with the Traffic Department
