Park Maintenance
  Active Recreation Areas
Many of Cambridge’s largest parks contain venues for sports and active recreation. The use of most athletic fields requires a permit from the Recreation Division of the Department of Human Services. You may contact the Recreation staff at (617) 349-6238 for more information. Though reservations are not required at most court areas (basketball, tennis), certain locations may host league play on certain nights of the week during the summer. Contact Recreation for a schedule.

Playgrounds are available at dozens of parks throughout the City, and may be used by everyone during the posted hours of operation. No dogs are allowed in the play areas. Many playgrounds feature waterplay (view map in pdf) sprinklers during the summer months. They are activated sometime between Memorial Day weekend and the end of the school year, depending on the weather, and are available through Labor Day weekend. Many of the sprinklers operate on a timer, depending on the location. You may contact the District Supervisor as listed on the Park Maintenance Home Page for more information about the park in question.
