| The
City’s Mandatory
Recycling Ordinance requires that any
building that generates waste in Cambridge must
recycle.
We provide free recycling "toters" and
weekly curbside collection service to all residential
buildings with 6 units or more. Owner-occupied
multi-family buildings with fewer than 6 units
can request
a toter for paper/cardboard.
Place recycling at the curb after 6pm the day
before collection or by 7am on collection
day. Toters must not block the sidewalk
and empty toters must be removed from the curb
by 6pm the day of collection.
If you’ve just moved in, ask your building
manager or landlord how recyclables are handled.
If your building does not have a way for you to
recycle, contact
us.
**New multi-family residential developments with
75+ units that request City service are required
to pay a set-up
charge for toters to collect recyclable
materials.
Print and post these 11x17 posters above your
recycling "toters" to educate others
in your building. Contact
us for laminated copies.

We are available to attend tenant/condo meetings
to make tailored recycling presentations or to
meet with property managers and custodial staff
to help troubleshoot problems. In addition, we
provide recycling brochures in 5 languages: English,
Spanish,
Haitian
Creole, Chinese
and Portuguese.
Distribute a simple, double-sided full-color
flyer to your residents. This flyer
includes translations in Spanish, Haitian Creole,
POrtuguese and Chinese.
Contact
us if you need: educational flyers,
broken recycling toters replaced, more
toters, or more recycling labels to
reduce contamination. The City places labels on
new toters. If you are ordering more labels to
replace old ones, click
here to view proper placement.
