to Recycle
Recycling
& Trash Guidelines
Curbside recycling of
blue
bins is provided to residents
in buildings with up to 6 units. Toters
are provided to apartment
buildings with 7 units or more.
Recycling is easy and the law
in Cambridge.
If you are a homeowner
and recycle alot of paper, you could be
eligible for a 64-gallon "toter"
for paper and cardboard. Email
and ask!
Recycling
is picked up on the same
day as trash. During holiday
weeks, curbside collection is
delayed one day. Set out your recycling
by 7am on collection day, or after 6pm the
night before.

Talk
to your neighbors about how, what
and why to recycle.
Call (617) 349-4800 if your recycling
or yard waste was missed and is properly
prepared.

| Glass,
Metal & Plastic Containers |
Rinse
containers and place loose in your bin.
No plastic bags, paper bags or Styrofoam.
Remove lids and caps.
What to Recycle (pic)
• aluminum (pie plates, trays &
foil)
• empty aerosol cans
• glass containers (any color)
• metal cans (tin, steel & aluminum)
• stiff plastic containers, #1-7
(no plastic bags/ Styrofoam)
• plastic plant pots (#1-7, must be
clean)
No broken glass,
no windows, no light bulbs, no dishes, no
glasses, no Pyrex, no foam packaging, no
paint cans, no
plastic bags or other metal items.

| Paper:
if it rips, recycle it! |
Place
mixed paper in a paper bag or a separate recycling
bin. No plastic bags. No need to remove
staples, paper clips, spirals, plastic windows
on envelopes or even the plastic spout on
milk/juice cartons!
What to recycle (pic)
• paperboard
(cereal/tissue boxes, towel rolls)
• magazines & newspapers
(glossy paper is ok)
• phone books & junk mail
(no CDs or plastic wrap)
• milk/juice cartons
(aseptic containers are ok)
• soft cover books
• all office paper
(no blueprints)
No paper take-out
containers, tissues or hard
cover books.
If it rips, recycle it! educational
materials:
Poster, Postcard,
PowerPoint
and bus
shelter advertisement.

| Cardboard:
it's not thaaat hard! |
Cardboard
larger than 3ft X 3ft will not fit inside
the recycling truck.
You can:
- 1. Flatten, cut to 3ft x 3ft, secure
under or between bins
2. Flatten, fold & stuff in a paper
bag or paper “toter”, OR
3. Bring large, clean cardboard, as is,
to the Drop-off
Center
during open hours.
No
pizza boxes unless you rip off the greasy
parts and put it inside out with your
mixed paper.
