  Motor Oil Recycling
  Donate & Recycle Listings

Just one gallon of used motor oil has the potential to contaminate up to one million gallons of drinking water, a year's supply for 50 people!

Recycle used oil by returning it to the point of purchase with your receipt. State law requires retailers to accept it and recycle it at no cost to you.

Oil generated from residential use can also be brought to the DPW. No other automotive liquids accepted. No oil from businesses.  Drain oil into a container with a tight lid that you will leave at the drop-off site.  Questions? Call (617) 349-4800.

  • Regular business hours: Monday through Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
  • Drop-Off Center hours: Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:00pm-7:30pm
                                        Saturdays 9:00am-4:00pm
  • For other local outlets click here.

Follow the signs at DPW gate (147 Hampshire Street) to the motor oil tank under shed. Ring the bell and wait for attendant.

Why its Important to Recycle Used Motor Oil...

Used motor oil that ends up in rivers, lakes and streams poses a serious threat to aquatic life. Thanks for doing the right thing!

If all the used motor oil that is improperly disposed of were properly managed, the United States could save thousands of barrels of oil each day. Used oil that is properly handled, can be re-refined into lubricants, processed into fuel oils, and used as raw materials for petrochemical industries.
