Scrap metal program expanded at the Recycling Drop-off Center, beginning November 2nd

The City of Cambridge's Recycling Division is excited to announce that we are expanding our scrap metal program at the Recycling Drop-off Center. Beginning November 2nd there will be a dedicated 30 cubic-yard container for scrap metal ONLY. This will increase the quantity and type of scrap metal accepted, earn additional revenue and divert more recyclable material from landfills.

In addition to smaller objects such as pots, pans, and clothes hangers, the Center will accept larger scrap metal items including bicycles, pipes, rain gutters, metal shelving, and window screens. Chain link fence will be accepted, but it MUST be in rolls 2 feet in diameter or less. We will NOT accept propane/gas tanks, motors, paint cans, barrels, drums, and other sealed containers. Large appliances that are scheduled for curbside collection with the purchase of a sticker from DPW, will still NOT be accepted at the Drop-off Center. For a complete listing of what is and what is not accepted, click here.

The Cambridge Recycling Drop-off Center is free of charge and open to all City residents, as well as businesses and nonprofits with 50 employees or less. It is located at 147 Hampshire Street and hours of operation are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-7:30PM and Saturdays from 9-4. The DPW yard is closed to the public at all other times.
