Why
is this Project Necessary ? |
|
| |
Cambridge’s
topography is very flat, which
makes the design, operation,
and maintenance of stormwater
drainage systems a problem.
This flat topography is further
disadvantaged by bordering and
discharging to a receiving water
that is controlled by a dam,
resulting in submerged outfalls
that are prone to blockage from
sedimentation.

What
is Being Done to Fix the Problem?
|
|
| |
Through
this project, the City's contractor
has rehabilitated two stormwater
outfalls to the Charles River:
one at Amesbury Street and the
other at Pearl Street (at Magazine
Beach). Bank stabilization and
shoreline restoration at Magazine
Beach is in its final stages.
A playing field renovation,
coordinated by the Commonwealth’s
Department of Conservation and
Recreation, is a
separate project that will move
forward after the outfall project
is completed.
