Overview |
|

Mt.
Auburn Street between Fresh
Pond Parkway and Story Street
is scheduled for roadway and
sidewalk reconstruction during
spring/ summer 2008. In connection
with the roadway and sidewalk
work there will be other improvements
including traffic calming.
- Curb extensions and crosswalks
at the intersections of Mt.
Auburn Street and Channing
Street, Longfellow Road, Lowell
Street, Gibson Street and
Sparks Street.
- Crossing islands at Trail
Street, Willard Street and
Brewer Street.
- Raised crosswalk at the
slip lane at the intersection
of Mt. Auburn Street and Hawthorne
Street/Memorial Drive.

[Please note that the proposed
improvements for the intersections
of Mt. Auburn Street and Gibson
Street, Lowell Street, Longfellow
Road, Channing Street and Trail
Street will not be completed
until the Mt. Auburn Hospital
project is constructed, therefore
those improvements are not included
on the above plans.]

Who
is Responsible for the Project? |

City
staff worked with residents
to discuss possible physical
changes that could be incorporated
in this project. Three community
meetings were held, September
28, November 2 and December
8, 2005 where residents discussed
their concerns, reviewed and
agreed on alternatives for traffic
calming and other improvements
on Mt. Auburn Street.
The City's contractor for construction
of this project is Aggregate
Industries. DPW Construction
Project Manager, Artie O'Brien,
will be on site daily to ensure
best construction management
practices are observed.

What
is the Project Schedule? |
|
| |
Construction
is expected to start May 7,
2008, and will continue through
mid-September 2008. The first
phase of construction will involve
drainage work, which will be
followed by sidewalk removal
and reconstruction, and then
roadway paving.
General work hours for this
construction will be Monday-Friday,
7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evening and
weekend construction will be
minimized to the greatest extent
possible.
“No Parking Signs”
will be posted 24 hours in advance
of all work. Signage and police
details will be in place to
assist during traffic disruptions.
The contractor will work with
impacted property owners to
coordinate and limit any disruptions
to the greatest extent possible.
