Location:
VanDernoot Gallery, University Hall, Lesley University 1815 Massachusetts Avenue Cambridge, Massachusetts 02140

Lesley University and the Boston LGBTQIA Artist Alliance have teamed up to present “Coded,” an exhibition of work by LGBTQIA-identifying (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual) artists in Massachusetts.

“Coded” will open on Tuesday, Jan. 31, and run through March 4 in Lesley University’s VanDernoot Gallery in Porter Square, Cambridge. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

“Coded” explores the unique role that language has played in queer culture as it has developed and flourished since the 19th century. From the outset, coded language allowed connections and communities to form among gender and sexual minorities in the midst of a dominant culture.

Juror Danielle Abrams selected nearly three-dozen pieces, by artists: Joe Balestraci, Carl Bowlby, Tynan Byrne, William Chambers, Ma Chih Ching (Dill), Oliver Coley, Jamieson Edson, Jeremy Endo, Gordon Feng, Rixy Fernandez, Maggie Guillette, Dylan Hurwitz, Heather Kapplow, Bunny Kellam-Scott, Coe Lapossy, Wu Dong Li, Jonathan Obin, Zoe Perry-Wood, Renee Silva, Evan Smith, Raleigh Strott, Kenson Truong, Sarah Bates Washburn and Anthony Young.
