Borges and Ward pull from two distinctly Brazilian forms of music, Samba and Bossa Nova. Bossa Nova was born from Samba in the 1950s bringing the jazz element into the already lively, African influenced style of music. The elements of Bossa Nova give Anna Borges vocals an intimate, gentle hum while allowing Bill Ward to show his jazzier side through guitar.
