As the Easter season approaches, the “Stabat Mater” stands as a musical expression of the overwhelming grief of a mother at the death of her child. It is considered one of the greatest Latin hymns, packed with vivid descriptions and exquisitely phrased form.
The Chorale presents two settings of this hymn, bridged by Mozart’s Symphony 39 in E-flat major—a musical connection to the tension and dolor of the Stabat Mater theme.
