Please join us Saturday, March 21, from 1:00-3:00pm, for my slide lecture, "Myanmar: A Glimpse of Traditional Life in Burma", at the Multicultural Arts Center in Cambridge. The MAC is at 41 Second Street, near the Lechmere Green Line T station in Cambridge. There is plenty of on-street parking.

A backwater of the British empire for more than 100 years, and politically isolated in independence until very recently, Myanmar is one of the most traditional and least known countries in Southeast Asia.

Home to more than 100 distinct ethic groups, beside the dominant, majority Bamars, it is a fascinating kaleidoscope of social customs, life styles, traditional dress, religions, foods, and more. From Inle Lake in the eastern Shan State, with its unique aquaculture, to the incomparable plains of Bagan in the center, dotted with thousands of Buddhist temples, Myanmar is a traveler's feast.
