Human Services Commission

Authority: 
The Code of the City of Cambridge, Chapter 2.98, Ordinance No. 935, 1980

Purpose: 
The Commission for Human Service Programs advises the City Manager and Assistant City Manager on human services policy issues and funding allocations. Through the Department of Human Service Programs, the Commission also promotes activities that enhance the quality of life for Cambridge residents. One important means the Commission uses for gathering information on local human services trends is testimony at periodic needs assessment public hearings. Over the years, the Commission has responded to local needs by recommending Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for a wide range of programs offered by the City and by community agencies.

Membership: 
9 members (8 Cambridge residents and one representative from the Superintendent of  Cambridge Public Schools; 2 members shall have experience and knowledge of human services in the city’s private sector, and 6 community representatives shall have experience and knowledge of the city’s human services.)

Term: 
3 years, except for the Public Schools designee, who serves at the discretion of the Superintendent.
