Planning Information
About Planning Information
The planning information staff within the Community Planning Division supports the planning activities initiated by the various divisions of the Community Development Department. They collect, analyze and publish socioeconomic information about the City of Cambridge, prepare maps and other cartographic products using the City's Geographic Information System (GIS) and provide graphic design services to the Community Development Department and other City agencies.
Demographic and Socioeconomic Information
Planning information encompasses data from a number of sources, primarily the United States Census conducted every ten years. The planning information staff maintains a wide range of demographic information on line and periodically updates a series of profiles about Cambridge.

Mapping and GIS
The City of Cambridge utilizes an advanced GIS system to track, analyze and map a range of information. The Community Development Department's GIS specialist works with the staff to analyze their mapping needs and produce maps and related demographic products to support department activities and for use by the public.

Town Gown Reports
Every year the four major higher educational institutions in Cambridge report on their planning and development activities by submitting Town Gown Reports to the Planning Board. The planning information staff coordinates this process with the institutions, Community Planning staff and the Planning Board.
