Gold Star Mothers Park Improvements
What's Happening Now
Major construction activities on Gold Star Mothers Park were completed in August 2006, and the park is open for public use. The division of Parks and Urban Forestry in the Department of Public Works will be responsible for maintaining the park on an ongoing basis.
We at the City staff appreciate the thought and effort that community members have contributed in creating an excellent park design, and we thank everyone for their patience during the construction process.

About the Project
Over a one year period, the City of Cambridge, in coordination with the East Cambridge Planning Team, held a series of public meetings to develop a plan for renovations to Gold Star Mothers Park, on Gore Street in East Cambridge. These renovations included installation of new playground and water play equipment as well as improvements to pathways, landscaping, fences, signage, and lighting.
At the first public meeting on February 23, 2005, residents discussed general issues with the park, including how it is used and how people feel it might be improved. At the second meeting on May 11, 2005, a preliminary design was presented and discussed, along with a set of design suggestions developed by members of the East Cambridge Planning Team. On June 15, 2005, a revised design was presented and discussed. Handouts from the May 11 and June 15 meetings, describing some of the reasoning behind the design decisions, are posted below.
