Sennott “Pocket Park” at Broadway and Norfolk Street
What’s Happening Now?
Construction work is substantially complete on the new space, which is open for public use. Workers may be present at various times to complete some additional tasks or to perform maintenance on the new equipment. We hope that the community enjoys this new amenity to the neighborhood.
Project Background
In 2009, the City began planning to construct a small sitting area or “pocket park” at the northeast corner of Sennott Park. This type of space was recommended in the Area Four Neighborhood Study and has been sought by community members for some time.
The space was designed to include a small number of new benches, a table, ornamental trees, decorative ground plantings and other landscape features arranged along the existing curved walkway at the corner of the park. This walkway was extended toward the entrance to the playground area, where a new community bulletin board and emergency police phone have been sited. A low ornamental fence was installed along the Broadway park edge.
A community presentation was held on May 13, 2009, where community members reviewed and discussed a proposed concept design. The final plan was presented and discussed on June 16. Both the original and revised designs can be downloaded from this web page below. Community members can sign up to be added to the mailing list for all future announcements about this project by following the link under “Stay Connected!” above.
