Aging in the Cambridge Community
Introduction
The Community Development Department and the Department of Human Service Programs recently completed reports that explore the needs of the senior population.
In the report Aging in the Cambridge Community the Department of Human Services outlines the range of services available to seniors in Cambridge, and the Community Development Department discusses key issues in the planning areas of transportation, economic development, zoning, parks and housing.
At the same time, the Community Development Department completed a report entitled Housing Options for Older Cantabrigians that provides a demographic review of the Cambridge residents 55 and older and an assessment of their existing housing options. This report is the first part of a two stage process. The second stage of this process will take advantage of the 2010 U. S. Census results, information gathered through a resident survey, and a public forum to discuss future housing needs of older Cantabrigians.
A public forum will be scheduled this fall to bring together experts in the area of senior housing and related supportive services, housing development and housing needs assessment for a panel discussion and public questions. A questionnaire and background materials, including the above referenced reports, will be made available at various locations throughout Cambridge in preparation for the forum.
