Lafayette Square and Massachusetts Avenue Project

About the Project
The roads through Lafayette Square (the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Main Street) are being realigned, and Massachusetts Avenue is being reconstructed between the square and Memorial Drive. The roadway design and community process have been underway for many years. Construction of important sewer and stormwater improvements began in the summer of 2000 and is now complete. More information on these improvements is available from the Department of Public Works at 617/349-4800.
Surface reconstruction, including surface enhancements and construction of a plaza at Lafayette Square will take place once roadway and sidwalk work are complete. The reconstructed plaza will include trees, seating, pedestrian lighting, and space for community events.
