Points 4 Safety
The Points 4 Safety program is an interdepartmental effort to raise awareness of several key safety laws to help improve safe interaction between motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
The key points are:
Don't Run Red Lights
The same red light laws that apply to motorists also apply to bicyclists. Both must wait for the green signal or legal right turn before proceeding.
Yield to Pedestrians in Crosswalks
Drivers and bicyclists must stop for pedestrians in a crosswalk. Be aware that a stopped car may be allowing a pedestrian to cross.
Cross with the WALK Light
Walkers must wait for the "WALK" light before crossing. Continue to cross when "DON'T WALK" flashes, but do not begin to cross.
Look for Bikes before Opening Car Doors
Automobile drivers and passengers should look for bikes before opening car doors. Pay special attention when parallel parking or when exiting a cab.
